Individual Services

  Our jobs should be fun and congruent with our personal values. Therefore, individual decisions for career choice need to be based on interests, skills and values. My job as a counselor is to help you think through your choices and guide you through the process. I will work with you through a three-stage exploration and decision process.
  • Know yourself: We will work together to understand and explore your interests, abilities, skills, values, aptitudes, personality, traits, and characteristics
  • Know the job market: I will teach you to use a variety of research techniques to investigate several possible careers.
  • Know how to market yourself: We will work together to identify one or two target careers, and design a campaign strategy to recognize and minimize the challenges, thus maximizing the success in obtaining the right job for you. We will develop a resume and portfolio that are in line with your targeted job campaign strategy, and work to improve your interview techniques.
This three-stage approach takes an average of five to seven sessions over a span of 2-3 months, but every person is different and you are in control of the speed at which we work. Counseling sessions are scheduled at a time that is convenient for you, including evenings, as well as day time hours.

If you choose to work with Career and Life Transition Counseling to help you with your career decision, you will work directly with me as your personal professional counselor. I am central Iowa's only certified career counselor with a masters degree in counseling and certified in both general counseling practice (NCC) and in the specialty practice of career counseling (NCCC) through the National Board for Certified Counselors. With more than 20 years of experience, I can help you find your way through the career choice maze.
